CHERYL MALONE
Cheryl Malone started working in porcelain at the Camden Arts Centre, London in 1988. Her inspiration comes from the porcelain medium itself and its ability to be analogous with the organic growth of plants in the forming process. After the initial firing, the brush drawing re-interprets these themes and growth patterns.
"The building process begins with a pinched base to which numerous coiled layers are added, often containing oxides. Each layer is pinched and smoothed simultaneously on the inside and outside; the walls becoming fine membranes that enclose and demarcate space at the same time"
Each piece is fired individually in an electric kiln to 1260 degrees centigrade.
