JORGE SIMES
Jorge Simes is a Chicago based artist, born in Argentina, whose work develops in different disciplines. His work currently includes painting, artist’s books and works on paper. In the past, it has included performances photographed and rendered in book form, printmaking and papermaking. Throughout his career he has been involved in design and applied arts, as well as mural painting.
His work has been exhibited and collected in the United States, Europe and Latin America. Among other distinctions, he has received the New Forms Regional Grant, given by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Simes holds a degree as a Professor in Printmaking and Drawing, Academy of Fine Arts, Cordoba, Argentina.
Part of the fascination in Simes' painting is the historical lecture, done in oil paint, super-imposed over the painting itself. This creates a literal third dimension to each piece in various languages, and provides a cerebral insight into Simes' intentions.
