"There is an aspect of all the work that I do that has a prescribed function. From this process of ordered tasks comes the realization of certain ideas that I perceive to have qualities of balance, harmony, and rhythm. These are all the basics of design that I have come to have an awareness of, over time and through working materials and techniques for certain (or not so certain) end results. What is more elusive and what I find to be the struggle in my work is the attempt to prescribe function to the end result, to the finished piece or object. I very much enjoy objects that, through their iconic quality, speak of function in a time when fewer and fewer tools have only one function. It seems seldom that we consider the simplicity of how a minimal shape, a subtle color, or a fully loaded icon can effect our perception of the world. These are the things that occupy my inner thoughts as I apply my energies to transforming materials into ideas."
