“Following a career in chemistry, physics, engineering, and business, I finally found the time to sit down and indulge my love of art. I have always been artistic, but expressed it in nonconventional ways through my design work, figures in proposals and scientific papers, sales promotional literature, and programmed graphical user interfaces in my software. After retirement, I began my new art career painting abstracts and landscapes in oil. On a trip to Chicago in October 2009, I was captivated by the art deco stained glass and tile designs I found there by Frank Lloyd Wright. When I returned home I indulged this new-found inspiration and created an oil painting incorporating some of his design elements. Although interesting, I did not really like the painting as it lacked contrast and the crisp separation of elements I desired. I decided to switch media and drew the design elements using india ink on canvas, and then painted in the colors using water color inks, and later progressed to acrylic paints on the large scale canvases. The first two paintings were "art Deco Doodles" 1 and 2. I loved the result and knew I was on to something unique and special. From there, the art form took on a life of its own and began to evolve and progress with each new painting. Symbols and numbers were used to inspire thoughtful contemplation. With the addition of people, the art became more expressive and I found I could convey ideas, concepts, and complete stories through the symbols and actions of the stick people that populated the art form. The culmination of this evolution is found in "The Wheel of Life" which tells a complete and somewhat complex story about life, the role of chance, the disparity between the "haves" and "have nots", and the struggle for success and happiness. I love this art form and am having the time of my life creating these unique worlds populated with vibrant colors and thought provoking content. Things are still evolving and I can't wait to see what will pop out of my head next. Stay tuned!”
