  KAREN HALT

Karen Halt was born in Cleveland, Ohio and attended Ohio State University. Halt began painting in 1968 without formal training. Her subject matter included still life, wild life and portraiture. In the nineteen eighties her compositions took a gigantic leap from predictable reality into more imaginative settings.

Halt’s posing of people and animals in unexpected, unplanned dimensions works to weave its way into our lives and free us of factual experiences. Her underlying theme is reconciliation that seeks to heal the gap between what is natural and that which is civilized.

Karen Halt has now imagined and created a new direction in her artistic role. This includes her unusual textile sculptures which are sewn by hand, painted, and finally dipped in bees wax and resin to emerge as hardened free-standing forms. Her wardrobe of sculptures is an exciting “third dimension” that echoes her acrylic paintings.
