Dye Infusion Polacolor Transfer Print

Anna Tomczak dominates the art of transferring photographic prints on fine paper.

The images for the Polacolor transfer prints are photographed at the 20x 24 Polaroid Studio in New York City, at Studia 3000, Prague, Czech Republic, or from travels with the camera to Florida and New Hampshire studios. Each image, tableaux, or figure is created in the studio and photographed with the oversized Polaroid view camera. The Polacolor negative is transferred onto a prepared hot press (smooth surface) Fabriano, Lanaquarelle, or Arches watercolor paper. Each negative is transferred immediately after being photographed and is not duplicated so every print is unique. Some of the assemblages are photographed 2 to 4 times, with slight changes. They are then numbered with Roman Numerals. Smaller photographs often serve as sketches for larger prints and are made with an 8 x 10 studio camera, which the artist can use in her studio and other locations. The prints are processed to neutralize the developer and are coated with UV inhibitor. It is recommended to frame them with UV inhibiting acrylic or glass, and display away from any constant UV light source. The artist's signature is on the lower right corner, the title on the left, and the date on the back.
